The AFCS compensates for injury, illness, or death attributable to service on or after 6 April 2005. It provides two primary types of awards:
Lump Sum Payment: A tax-free amount ranging from £1,200 to £570,000 for pain and suffering.
Guaranteed Income Payment (GIP): A lifelong, tax-free monthly payment for those with significant loss of earning capacity.
Claims should be submitted within 7 years of the earliest of the following dates:
The incident date leading to the injury or illness.
The date when service aggravated a pre-existing condition.
The date you first sought medical advice for the condition.
The date of discharge.
