Claims must be made within 7 years* of the illness or injury, whichever of the following dates is earliest:

The date of incident which lead to the injury/illness

The date the injury/illness (not attributable to service) was made worse by the service

The date you first sought medical advice for your illness

The date of discharge

*There are some circumstances where you can submit a claim outside of these timescales, we can review and advise. 

All claims can be submitted whilst still serving and you do not need to wait until discharge.

If you’ve already started your AFCS journey, you may find yourself in one of the following scenarios:

Have you been given an interim award, but unsure what you should do within the period given?

or

Have you received a final award that does not equate to the severity and impact of the injury/illness? 

or 

Did the service only accept partial liability? 

In these circumstances we will review your case, the outcome awarded and the evidence you hold to see if the awarding level is appropriate to the injury or illness you sustained.
